So I’m a girl, and I walked to the convenience store right next to my apartment and I buy two bags of smart food cheddar popcorn. When I was backpacking Mexico, literally the only thing that I missed about the US was cheddar popcorn because they don’t carry it in the stores in Mexico. I bought 2 small bags for $1. I went back to my apartment and started watching Amy Schumer’s new netflix special Growing. I ran out of popcorn and wanted more. I left my apartment to go buy some more bags for $1.
When I entered the store, because I always want to be so nice to other people, I smiled at the security guard. He took this as an opportunity to start talking to me. He said, ‘oh you’re back again,’ … and I said ‘…yes.’ I got my popcorn and walked over to the cash register. He says to me, condescendingly, ‘is all that for you?’ I was annoyed, but responded anyway, ‘yes.’ And he judgmentally replied, ‘this late at night? Ok.’ I HAVE ONE QUESTION. WOULD HE HAVE ASKED ME THAT IF I WERE A MAN? NO. I don’t think so. Society doesn’t shame men for stuff like that. Not only was it judgmental, it was sexist. Stop disrespecting women.
