Pack

Packing can be tedious and frustrating. Here’s my breakdown of the essentials I pack and how I fit them into a small suitcase for months of travel. This is list is geared toward women because this is what I packed, so men, use your best judgement.

Clothes

  • 2 pair shorts
  • 3 breathable long pants & calf length capris (I just used leggings)
  • 2 tank tops
  • 3 easy roll up, long sleeve, button down, cotton shirts
  • 1 warm hat, baseball cap
  • 1 scarf
  • 1 shawl
  • 1 swim suit (or 2: bikini, one piece)
  • 1-2 pair good walking shoes & 2 pair regular socks
  • 1 pair warm boots & 2 pair warm socks
  • 2 casual day dresses

Toiletries

  • Shampoo, Conditioner (in small travel bottles)
    • You can also just use baking soda and or coconut oil as shampoo & conditioner. You should carry baking soda & coconut oil anyway.
  • Comb
  • Small (preferably foldable) Hairbrush
  • Hair ties
  • Small (preferably foldable) tooth brush
  • Toothpaste
  • Floss
  • Baking soda (face & body cleanser/exfoliator)
  • Coconut oil (very effective skin moisturizer, hair conditioner, antibacterial)
  • Razor

Important Documents

  • Passport
  • photo ID
  • Copies of passport & ID
  • Medical receipts
  • Any travel insurance paperwork
  • Copies of credit & debit cards in case they’re stolen

Safety

  • 2 phone charger cords
  • 2 foreign wall adapters
  • Tazer
  • Luggage locks
  • Rain coat
  • Satin sleeping liner (bed bugs, mosquitos)
  • Bug spray
  • Bandaids
  • Neosporin
  • Ace bandage
  • Medical grade tape
  • Aloe vera
  • Alcohol swabs
  • Pain killers
  • Probiotics

Finances

  • At least 1 credit card that does not charge foreign transaction fees & offers rewards points
  • 1 debit card that does not charge foreign transaction fees &  reimburses all ATM fees: I use Schwab debit card
  • Carry cash at all times because some places do not accept debit or credit

Tech

  • Light, portable computer (I use Macbook Air)
  • 2 external drives to back up pictures
  • Earphones/buds

Miscellaneous

  • Small sewing kit
  • Mini scissors
  • Thin roll-up towel
  • Sleeping eye mask
  • 2 sets of ear plugs
  • 1 large backpack for overnight trips
  • 1 small backpack for day trips
  • 1 medium sized rolling suitcase
  • 1 money purse/wallet (or just use the small backpack)

Food

  • Bag of nuts/seeds/dried fruit for road trips
  • Reusable & compressible BPA-free water bottle

Packing Tips

  • Roll up clothing like you’re rolling a yoga mat
  • Compress your clothes into ziploc bags to waterproof & save space
